Ma Zhong is an officer of Wu. Historically, he is only briefly mentioned capturing Guan Yu and Guan Ping under the command of Pan Zhang at the battle for Jing Province.
After Guan Yu's horse, Red Hare, was taken by Sun Quan. He followed Pan Zhang's advice and fought a bitter victory over Guan Xing and Zhang Bao. During the Shu retreat, he was attacked in his sleep by Mi Fang and Fu Shi Ren who presented his head to Liu Bei.
